Birmingham, UK (October 1, 2008) – Today ITC recognise the achievements of the Outward Bound Charity through sponsorship of an esteemed golf tournament at the Belfry. Outward Bound, founded in 1941, is an educational charity helping young people with confidence or self-esteem issues to reach their full potential by organising safe, adventurous activity events.
Outward Bound is the umbrella body for the separate Outward Bound Organisations. It raises funds via: donations; its fundraising arm, The Patrons Company; its nationwide network of Outward Bound Associations; and also profits of Outward Bound Professional.
The Trust offers courses and training programmes for schools, colleges, individuals and Duke of Edinburgh Award participants. Events occur at a number of selected sites across the UK and include activities such as rock climbing, abseiling, camping, rafting and hiking. Team work and communication skills are developed and the results of the projects are very positive. Young people have the opportunity to be led by non judgemental instructors and fellow pupils to learn life skills in an exciting and different environment.
For fundraising purposes in particular, Outward Bound excels at organising day and evening events which require sponsorship efforts from corporates; and the golf event at the Belfry is considered one of their most important calendar events.
The golf event was not just about sponsorship of Outward Bound. Incentives throughout the day enabled attendees to understand more about the charity’s efforts, participate in fundraising events at various points around the golf course, bid at a silent auction where the profits went to Outward Bound, and furthermore enjoy a day of 18-hole golf.
Stuart Baker of The Outward Bound Trust cites that:“Donations alone are not enough to allow us to help young people. Charitable events such as the Belfry Golf Day enable us to raise the vital funds we desperately need to help disadvantaged young people attend an Outward Bound course, and we greatly appreciate the efforts ITC and others made on the day.”
In the last few months, ITC has sponsored two golf tournaments; the first raising funds for Blackheath golf club and the second for the Outward Bound Charity. Sponsorship is one way for corporate businesses to give something back to the community; ITC hopes to enhance its charitable relationships by continuing to sponsor sporting events in the future.
